Less maintenance means more time to enjoy your new swim spa from The Hot Tub Doctor

People today have less and less free time. Nobody wants to spend that free time maintaining their pool! Swim spas require much less maintenance than pools. Some examples include:

With traditional swimming pools, UV from the Sun breaks down the chlorine in the water, increasing the chances of the pool going cloudy or green. Swim spas are covered most of the time, virtually eliminating this problem.

Unlike traditional swimming pools, swim spas don’t need to be brushed and vacuumed every week to keep the walls clean.

You also do not have to skim the surface of your swim spa. The surface area of the water is small enough that the skimmer can remove any floating debris on its own.

Swim spa filters are able to filter water to a finer degree than pool filters. While the average pool filter only filters water down to about 30-40 microns, an average spa filter is able to filter down to around 10 microns. This means that swim spa filters are able to filter out finer debris; keeping the water clear more easily.

Small backyards have no problem finding space for a new swim spa from The Hot Tub Doctor

Another one of the main reasons why more and more people are turning to swim spas is that backyards keep getting smaller. Builders keep trying to fit more and more houses in a smaller and smaller area. As they do, backyards continue to shrink. Trying to have a swimming pool can often mean your entire back yard is nothing but pool. Thus, many are turning to the smaller swim spas to get their swimming fix. Swim spas are able to fit in places where other swimming pools simply can’t.

Easy installation of your new swim spa by the professionals at The Hot Tub Doctor

Swim spas are much easier (and cheaper) to install than traditional swimming pools. A standard in-ground pool takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to install and requires completely tearing apart your backyard. Once the pool is complete, you’re left with a muddy mess that needs to be re-sodded and landscaped. This adds more time, and expense, to your pool project. Swim spas, on the other hand, only require a poured concrete foundation and basic electrical installation. Since they are completely self-contained units, they can be delivered and installed within a few hours; without completely tearing your backyard apart.

Extend your swimming season with a new swim spa from The Hot Tub Doctor

One of the biggest reasons why more and more people are buying swim spas is that they want a longer swim season. Without a heater most pools will only stay at swimming temperature for around 3 to 4 months of the year. Swim spas allow you to easily, and affordably, extend your swimming season to at least 6-9 months of the year, with some swim spa owners operating their swim spas year round! They can do this because your swim spa is insulated and because it holds much less water than a traditional swimming pool. While you could simply maintain a swimmable temperature in your pool using a gas or electric pool heater, the cost to do so can quickly get out of control. Not only are pools not insulated, a standard pool is also quite large. Keeping that much water at 80 degrees is no easy task for a heater once it starts to get cold. For this reason, your pool heater will have to work around the clock in order to properly heat the water. This can lead to heating bills that easily exceed hundreds of dollars per month!

Save money by taking advantage of huge discounts on swim spas from The Hot Tub Doctor

Another reason why people buy swim spas is that they’re less expensive than an in-ground pool to purchase, and far cheaper to run. Extending your pool’s swimming season can easily cost hundreds of dollars per month. Heating and running a swim spa in the colder months, on the other hand, costs a fraction of that. Not only are swim spas less expensive to heat, they’re also much less expensive to run. Due to their small size, swim spas require much less chemicals to operate. They also don’t require accessories like pool cleaners, backwash hoses or skimmer nets to keep themselves clean; saving you money in maintenance equipment.

Swim Spa Versus Hot Tub – Which One Is Right For You?

Your backyard is the perfect spot to make your own personal summer getaway and the perfect way to achieve this is by adding a luxurious swim spa or hot tub from The Hot Tub Doctor. Before you make the final decision on whether a swim spa or hot tub is your best choice, read on to learn more about the main differences between hot tubs and swim spas as well as the benefits of a swim spa.

The right spa for you and your family depends on your intended use?

If you’re looking for the perfect sap that will provide you with a relaxing social spot for your backyard that is perfect for your family, has plenty of room for guests to mingle in and provides a relaxing soak that helps heal sore muscles; a hot tub might be you best choice. On the other hand, if you have kids, live an active lifestyle or want the many benefits and uses that a swimming pool provides, but don’t have the space or the budget to install an in-ground pool; a swim spa might be a better choice. One isn’t technically better than the other, it just depends what your needs and wants are. If you still feel undecided, get in touch with the friendly folks at The Hot Tub Doctor. The Hot Tub Doctor’s professional staff are spa specialists and would be happy to help you determine which spa best for you.

The benefits of installing a swim spa

Swim spas are the perfect hybrid between a hot tub and a swimming pool. Most swim spas are built with both a small pool area and a separate seated area. Swim spas are geared towards exercise and recreation. In the open tank area of the swim spa, there is more than enough room for multiple users to engage in swimming for exercise or water games. Kids and adults alike can benefit from a swim spa, especially since the temperature can be regulated to meet your needs. The tank area of the swim spa typically includes a high-powered jetting system that provides enough resistance for a user to swim in place. This eliminates the need for a larger tank, as swimmers can complete their laps without having to turn around once they hit a wall.

Hot tubs provide relaxation and relief

Hot tubs are built to create the perfect place to relax and heal your body in the comfort of warm, jet-driven water. There’s nothing better for healing your sore and tired muscles than immersing yourself into a body of hot water. Especially when it’s circulated by powerful jets that help strategically massage thoset stress-prone areas of your body. Physiotherapists around the world use the healing properties of hot tub hydrotherapy to help athletes and patients heal following vigorous activity, a joint or muscle injury, and as part of the rehabilitation process. Aside from the physical health benefits, hot tubs offer mental and emotional health benefits as well. A hot tub provides the perfect place to relax alone or to socialize with family and friends.

Summer Is The Perfect Time To Catch Up On Hot Tub Maintenance

If you are a seasonal user of your hot tub, you may need to make some adjustments to your hot tub maintenance routine during the summer months. Leaving your spa to its own devices during summer without intervention can result in bacteria buildup, damaged filters and even a very smelly hot tub. If you tend to use your hot tub less during warmer weather (or less during colder weather for that matter), here are some hot tub maintenance tips that will help you protect your hot tub and your investment. Now is the best time to call The Hot Tub Doctor to let them get and keep your hot tub clean and bright year round.

Drain and refill your hot tub

You may be tempted to leave the water in the hot tub or spa after the season with plans to drain and refill it before using it again, but this plan may cause you problems and cost you money in the long run. Whether you are a cold weather user or a warm weather enthusiast, at the end of the season be sure to drain and refill your hot tub to make sure you are ready to go when you have the urge to climb back in. The Hot Tub Doctor is the one to call to get this done for you. Not only will they drain and clean your spa, they will refill it with purified water to make sure getting the chemical balance reestablished will be easy and less costly.

Turn the spa heater down to a low setting during hot summer months

A covered spa that is not heated will drop and stabilize to a temperature that is a bit lower than the outside air temperature. During hot summer weather, even with the heater off and spa covered, water temps can rise into the 80’s. It’s important to keep the spa pump running, to avoid algae and bacteria from growing during hot summer months. Setting the temperature controller to a low value will save on energy costs and provide you with an opportunity for a refreshing summer dip.

Make sure your hot tub chemistry is always in balance

Even though no one is using your hot tub, it is important to ensure the spa chemistry is always balanced. Chasing chemistry can be time consuming and expensive if you don’t get it right the first time. The Hot Tub Doctor is your go to expert when it comes to maintaining your spa in top notch condition. Call them today and let them take the hassle out of your life.

Summer is a great time to sanitize your spa

Even though you aren’t using your spa, you will still need to keep some type of constant sanitizer in the water, to kill bacteria, viruses, algae. A good daily disinfectant along with a monthly balancing and shocking of the spa is a good plan. Whether you are chloride based chemistry or bromine based, be sure to maintain the correct chemistry for your spa. Avoid allowing your spa water to filter only, without bromine, ozone, minerals or shock, it won’t last long without some form of daily sanitation. Save yourself some time and money by calling The Hot Tub Doctor for help in proper sanitization of your hot tub.

Get Your Hot Tub Ready For Summer Fun

Summer is pretty much here, which means sunny days, backyard barbecues, relaxation and lots of spa time. Before you begin using your hot tub this summer, make sure that you prepare it for heavy usage, especially if you haven’t checked up on it in a while. You don’t want to have to worry about maintenance problems throughout the summer, make sure everything is working the way it should and call the professionals at The Hot Tub Doctor to help get you ready for true summer fun in your spa.

Drain and clean your hot tub

Whether you’ve been using your hot tub regularly through the winter and spring season or not, it’s important that you thoroughly clean your tub to create a safe environment for all of the fun you’ll be having in it over the summer months. If you haven’t drained your spa in four months or longer, now is the time to do it. Once your spa is drained, take the time to make sure to check the jets, pumps, valves, pipes and filter casings for damage and built up dirt. If you find that any of these parts are damaged, call The Hot Tub Doctor right away. Now is also the best time to thoroughly clean your spa. Use an all purpose cleaner to clean the shell’s surface. Once you have drained and cleaned your spa, fill it up with fresh water. If you haven’t called The Hot Tub Doctor yet be sure to call them before you fill your spa. The Hot Tub Doctor uses purified water that will help you save bunches on chemicals after your spa is filled.

Time for inspection

Nothing is worse than having people over to enjoy your hot tub on a sunny day only to have it stop working. The best way to avoid this is to make sure you thoroughly check your spa for any cracks, leaks or other damage. It is important to locate these issues when they first occur so that they don’t get worse. If you notice any damage or leaks, call The Hot Tub Doctor right away. Check your spa’s filters and make sure they are clean and ready to go. Now is a great time to consider replacing the filters. Also check to make sure your pumps and filters are working properly. It’s important that these work because they help to reduce the amount of maintenance needed in the future.

Don’t forget to check your chemicals

Once your hot tub has been drained, inspected, repairs completed and refilled you need to make sure your chemicals are properly balanced. Use testing strips to analyze the chemical balance in your water to make sure that they are at safe levels. You should continue to do this every few days over the summer, as you will probably be using your spa often. The goal of using chemical strips is to make sure that the alkaline and acid levels are even. If they aren’t, then you can balance them by adding the appropriate chemicals. You may not be able to balance your chemicals perfectly, but as long as you are checking your levels every week and adding chemicals accordingly, you should be fine. Save time and money by letting The Hot Tub Doctor regularly clean and maintain your spa.

Cool it down

Normal hot tub temperatures are perfect for cool summer nights, but you may want to lower the temperature during the day if you live in an extremely warm climate. If you want a relaxing experience in your spa during the day, try turning the temperature down to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If you really want to cool down and transform your spa into a “cool tub,” turn the temperature down to 85 degrees or lower. Test the water’s temperature to find the perfect heat for a daytime dip to prepare for backyard parties with friends. Take advantage of the sunny days this summer by spending time in your backyard with friends and family, and by spending as much time as possible in your spa.

Make Your Hot Tub One Of The Best Places To Cool Off And Relax Year-Round

During the summer-season most people put the lid on their spa and ignore it until fall. With temperatures in the 90s, a hot tub may not sound appealing. The reality is that your spa can be used year-round! Turning your hot tub into a “cool tub” is quick and easy! You can turn your spa into a cool tub, kick back and cool off in style! Don’t shut it down, make your spa the best places to cool off and enjoy the relaxation benefits year-round. Here are a few suggestions to help you get the best use of your spa in any season.

Change the temperature setting on your hot tub

During the winter months, most people keep their spawater temperature between 98 and 104 degrees. When the weather becomes warmer, simply turn down the temperature of your hot tub and use the spa to cool off. Depending on the style of heater in your spa, you might be able to disconnect the heater completely! You can still utilize your therapy jets in cool, refreshing water. If you prefer, you can keep your tub’s temperature high to continue to enjoy soothing hot water and just use the tub later in the evening, once the outside temperatures have cooled down.

Let the jets cool everything off

To help bring a chill to the water, let the jets continue to run at night on cooler evenings. Unlike a pool, spas are insulated. The insulation will help keep the water temperature cool and resistant to the warm summer sun.

Keep the hot tub cover on

To keep the water cool and refreshing during the summer, keep spa covers on during sunny days and anytime you’re not using it.

Create shade

If your spa is placed outdoors, you may want to consider setting up a large cantilever umbrella or a canopy. This will keep direct sunlight off you while you are using your spa. Deflecting UV rays can also extend the life of your spa cover. Cool spas are also popular with kids, it’s like having their own personal pool. So go ahead, make your hot tub a “cool-tub” for a summer filled with relaxation and personal pool time.

Common Mistakes Most Hot Tub Owners Make When It Comes To Caring For Their Hot Tub

If you just purchased a hot tub, or are new to spa care, you’ll be happy to know that hot tub maintenance can be simple. If you avoid these five common spa care mistakes, you’ll save time and hassle:

Keep your hot tub covered

Keeping your spa covered prevents debris, like leaves, sticks and dirt, from getting in the water and throwing off water chemical balance. Covers can also help keep your energy costs down by trapping in warm air.

Keep an eye on temperature control

Do not forget to turn the water temperature down after using your spa. Keeping the water temperature lower, and the spa covered when it is not in use, can save a lot of energy and money.

Keep hot tub filters clean

Air and other debris can clog the filters and, over time, can cause a back up, which leads to unnecessary energy consumption. Clean your spa filters regularly to make sure they are running efficiently.

Shower off before getting in

Body lotions, sweat, hair and other organic materials react with chlorine forming harmful chloramines. Chloramines can cause irritation, asthma and other health issues. Shower off before getting in the spa to keep chloramines to a minimum. Additionally, showering off can reduce the number of times you will need to clean the filters.

Be sure you are using the right chemicals in your hot tub

Using harsh chemicals can cause premature degradation of spa parts. Chlorine is a common sanitizer; however, handling, storing and balancing chlorine is tedious and harmful to your health. Advanced oxidation spa systems, like Clear Comfort, provides a healthy and environmentally friendly way to treat your spa without the hassle of chlorine. As you can see, the most common and problematic spa care mistake can be easily avoided. This spa season, take care of your spa so it can take care of you.

The fun does not have to stop now that spring is here and you can keep the good times rolling well into summer and beyond. All you have to do is let The Hot Tub Doctor help you keep your spa in tip-top shape with a little spring cleaning. Here are just a few of The Hot Tub Doctors tips for getting your spa ready for spring.

Spring cleaning tips

Drain your hot tub – To drain the water from your spa, turn off the power, unscrew the drain valve cap, and attach a garden hose to the drain fitting. Direct the hose to a safe drainage area—preferably not your lawn—and let gravity take over. Once the process is complete, close the drain valve, remove the garden hose, and replace the drain cap. Clean the Cabinet – To keep your spa cabinet (also known as a skirt) looking its best, wipe it down with a clean towel and a mild soap solution. Never spray the skirt with a high-pressure garden hose, since this may induce an electrical short. Wipe Down the Shell – Now that your spa is empty, clean the inside with a non-abrasive, non-sudsy cleaning solution. Afterward, rinse the shell thoroughly to eliminate any residue from the solution, which could cause sudsing when you refill the spa. Replace the Filters – Remove and rinse the filters thoroughly, and replace them regularly with filters designed for your particular spa. Different filters require different maintenance, so check your owner’s manual or talk to The Hot Tub Doctor to ensure proper care. Refill the Hot Tub – To refill your spa, remove the filter lid and cartridge from the filter bucket, and then place a garden hose in the empty filter bucket. Fill the spa until the water covers all the jets but does not touch the bottom of the lowest headrest. Then, remove the hose and replace the filter cartridge. The Hot Tub Doctor can do this for you and fill your spa with purified water meaning far less chemicals will be needed to maintain your water. Treat the Water – Now it’s time to test and treat the water with the chemicals recommended for your spa. Always maintain a constant sanitizer reading. You can also simplify care letting The Hot Tub Doctor drain, clean, refill and treat your spa. This will not only save you time but can save you a lot on unnecessary chemicals. Clean (and Inspect) the Cover – Finally, clean and condition your spa cover. Use a garden hose to loosen dirt and debris, scrub the top of the cover with mild soap and a large sponge or soft-bristle brush, and rinse it clean. Your hot tub is designed to provide you with the utmost relaxation and rejuvenation. And with the proper spring cleaning and routine care, you can rest assured that you’ll be soaking in clean, clear water all year long.
